Ross Davison, a distinguished musician and educator, has significantly contributed to the Celtic music and piping community in Glengarry and beyond. Born in upstate New York and currently residing in Kanata, Ontario, Ross teaches music at Holy Trinity High School and has dedicated his life to mastering and sharing the art of piping.
His journey began in 1996 after attending the Glengarry Highland Games, sparking his passion for piping. Ross trained extensively, studying under Ed Bush, Brian Williamson, and Callum Beaumont, and advancing through the ranks to Grade 1 solo piper by 2009. In 2021, he achieved the rare designation of “Open” Professional Piper. His accolades include gold medals for Uilleann piping at the Great Lakes Feis and the Oireachtas Gaeilge Cheanada, as well as top placements in solo piping competitions across North America.
Ross’s leadership and mentorship have left a lasting impact. As Pipe Major of the Grade 5 Glengarry Pipe Band in 2011, he led the group to a Grade 4 World Pipe Band Championship placement in Glasgow by 2013. His efforts also guided the band’s promotion to Grade 3, showcasing his ability to inspire and elevate his team. Ross has taught at the Glengarry School of Piping since 2009 and served as President of the Pipers and Pipe Band Society of Ontario (Ottawa Branch) from 2012-2015. His involvement in various ensembles, including the Ottawa Police Pipe Band, Ottawa Fire Service Pipe Band, and Celtic jazz band “The Trousers,” highlights his versatility and dedication to the Celtic music tradition.
A multi-instrumentalist, composer, and teacher, Ross embodies a passion for fostering talent and enriching the musical community. His countless hours mentoring students, often travelling from Ottawa to Glengarry free of charge, and his contributions as a certified judge exemplify his commitment. There were several people who nominated Ross as an Inductee indicating his achievements and impact. His work continues to inspire both seasoned musicians and young learners throughout the Celtic music community.
