Neil Emberg

2025, Inductee

Neil Emberg is nominated for induction into the Glengarry Celtic Music Hall of Fame due to his enduring contributions to Celtic music and his role as an ambassador of Glengarry’s rich musical heritage. Starting his journey at Iona Academy in St. Raphael’s, Ontario, Neil cultivated his talent under the guidance of mentors like Mary Morris (Harrison) and Nancy Beaudette. His high school years at Char-Lan DHS further shaped his foundation in music, particularly through his involvement with the Glengarry Pipe Band.

Choosing music over hockey, Neil formed The Daze After, blending Celtic and rock styles and performing at local events. His musical growth continued with collaborations and recording endeavours, culminating in his founding of the band Hadrian’s Wall, which gained widespread recognition in the United States and beyond. This band originally included Richard Irwin, Terry O’Farrell and Nelson MacPherson. Terry and Richard sometimes still join Hadrian’s Wall with star entertainers Ashley MacLeod-McRae and Ewen McIntosh who have been together over twenty years. Neil’s musical style includes traditional and contemporary Celtic music, enhanced by his songwriting about Glengarry’s heritage, as demonstrated in tracks like “The Jolly Piper” and “Glengarry to Maidstone.”

Performing at key local events like the Glengarry Highland Games and numerous fairs, Neil has left an indelible mark on the community. His father-daughter wedding song, “No Longer Mine” (Hector the Hero), has become a cherished local favourite. Over 30 years of ongoing performances, both within and outside Glengarry, Neil has shared the county’s unique Celtic history across North America, the Dominican Republic, and Scotland.

Neil’s volunteerism includes annual contributions to Maxville Manor and Glengarry Memorial Hospital, as well as sharing uplifting online music during challenging times like the pandemic lock down. His mentorship and influence have inspired other bands, like the Fridge Full of Empties and the County Lads.

Neil’s impact on the community, his dedication to Celtic music, and his ability to connect audiences with Glengarry’s heritage render him a worthy inductee to the Hall of Fame. His blend of passion, talent, and leadership exemplifies the spirit of Glengarry’s Celtic culture.
